Needing some advice, I'm running or trying to produce a good weldment , AC squarewave, constant current , Joint Geometry 1/4" a572-50, square groove, 1/16 root (sheared edge) ,3/8" back up bar, Parameters 550 amp, 34v, 40hz, 40% balance, 20% + offset @ 24 ipm. Results 3/32" reinforcement, 7/16 weld face width, penetration marginal at best 1/16 " into backing . Problem inconsistent at toes of root incomplete fushion. Running 3/32" wire, Do to root's running up to 3/16" it will be hard to go to a smaller dia.??????

IMO Al hit this one dead on. You have equipment overkill. Also, with a square groove you need, at least in my experience, a grooved backing to get the metal to flow underneath the toe and get good consistent fusion. It doesn't take much, but it can sure end some headaches.
