Hello,

I will qualify WPS/PQR for GTAW + SMAW material P1 to cover thickness 11.1, How to consider thickness qualification range , can I follow table QW-451 Thickness min 5 mm ,and max 2T of test coupon or QW 403.6 state that The minimum base metal thickness qualified in the test coupon T or 16 mm. whichever is less, which paragraph to be consider?

Thank you for kindly aupport

The way I read it, QW-253, Welding Variables Procedure Specifications (SMAW) and QW-256 Welding Variables Procedure Specifications (GTAW), they both reference QW 403.8 for the thickness qualified. "QW-403.8 A change in base metal thickness beyond the range qualified in QW-451, except as otherwise permited by QW-202.4(b)" I don't see any reference to QW-403.6 in this case. So I would say range of thickness qualified is per Table QW-451.1

dhannaro,
QW 403.6 is a Supplementary Essential Variable so is only applicable if impact testing / notch toughness is required,

Shane
