Hi,

I am trying to find the tensile strength (Fxx) of the weld metal that was used to weld a roof bare metal deck (H.H. Robertson) to structural steel in 1974. This is an existing building in Santa Barbara, CA and there is no info. on the weld strength or type (no AWS electrode classification) on the drawings. The only thing I know is the metal deck is conforming to ASTM 446-76 and it is H.H. Robertson roof deck.
I have tried to contact to any source, or looked for any specification/catalog to find the Fxx value, but no luck.

Does anyone have any knowledge that where I can get this info. or any historical data about what weld type (or strength) used during 1970's?

Thanks,

Ozer

Try contacting AISC in Chicago.  They have an "ask AISC" phone number and maybe someone there can help or guide you. 312-670-2400 ext#1

As a minimum, it would have been 60 ksi.  There is no carbon steel electrode in AWS A5.1 with a specified minimum tensile strength less than 60 ksi.

That project was likely covered by the Seventh Edition of the AISC Manual.  It covers E60 and E70 for garden grade structural metals.
