Good afternoon to all. Is it possible to galvanize materials consisting of 316L ss welded to mild steel? Filler material used is 309LHsi. Hsi is for high silicon. Has anyone even seen stainless galvanized?

Special project and application. Galvanizing is just one option being looked at.

Yes, actually it's possible, but I don't understand why do you want to galvanize stainless steel. Stainless steel has a much higher corrosion resistance than galvanized lining.

I'm trying to find a reference I read not long ago along these lines.

If I'm not way out of line and totally mistaken, the point is making the other steel and the weld zone come as close as possible to matching the corrosion resistance of the Stainless Steel.  And it is rather difficult to only galv the one part.  Thus the entire finished product must be galvanized.

Seems like there are other processes that would apply as well.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

thremal spray? we did that for mild steel plate to convex SS bearing disc.

Thanks for replying guys. The whole assembly would be galvanized after welding mild steel parts to the stainless steel. The customer is requiring the galvanizing. We'll start the testing. Thanks again !!!!
