Up Topic Welding Industry / General Welding Discussion / make whole shop welding area---no need for Hot Work Permit
- - By Mary Leah Clark Date 10-11-2010 15:48
Greetings,
I have been told that I can make our whole shop a welding area and not need Hot work Permits.
Since we weld, burn and use hand grinders all of the shop this would make sence.

But I was told that for the whole shop to be designated a welding area, that it would to meet certain criteria.

What is required to be a welding area?  I am guessing no wood walls,  must have concrete floors.  Is there written guidelines for this somewhere?

Thanks!

Are you asking about OSHA's hot work permitting requirements where you are working around where hazardous materials are stored?(1910.119(k)

if not, I would just make sure the shop and it's management is in compliance with CFR29 Part 1910, Subpart Q....and be done with it.
