Dear Friends
Appreciate experts' understanding and definition of this requirement
Thanks

Simple enough, the short answer is; if you qualify a welding procedure using a complete joint penetration groove weld, you are qualified to weld any prequalified groove detail listed in figures 3.12 (PJP) or 3.13 (CJP).

Again, the short answer is; if you have an overwhelming need to use a joint detail that does not comply with a joint (with applicable tolerances) shown in figures 3.3 or 3.4, all bets are off and you have to qualify the proposed joint detail to demonstrate the resulting weld meets all the test requirements stipulated by Clause 4 parts A and B.

Best regards - Al

P.S. Always include the edition of the welding standard or code you are asking about. It often influences the response.

I want a recount.  Besides, I don't think everyone came out to vote.  Just like regular.

Have a Great Day, and get out and VOTE,  Brent

Dear Experts
Thanks,
But with CVN requirements,is the same apply as the cvn raedngs may greatly varies for example between single -V and DoubleV  & single bevel and double bevel  as the weld voulme differ and so does the heat input which have great influence on the CVN readings?

Look at AWS D1.1 (2010) Table 4.7 items 26 - 29. You have to requalify the procedure if you increase the cross section of the joint or if you exceed the thickness limitations. Square grooves have separate considerations.

But Lar, we give the other vote to Henry.
And Giovanni, and yourself.
Let us give the votes to the smartest people on here.
I think I named those four.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Kent
