Now that the weather is gonna start to get colder and colder, this winter I would like to pick up a nice, warm pair of steel toed work boots. Something to keep my toes nice and warm...any suggestions?

Alan,

Get composite carbon fiber, fiberglass or Kevlar toe boots instead which will also be tested to the same ANSI/OSHA standards and tagged as being tested to the same standards as steel toe boots...

Off the top of my head, I don't have particular brand name but, if you do a quick Google or whatever search engine you use - type of search you should come up with some options that suit you best. ;)

Here's a link that can help you out further... Now when the link opens, scroll down some and look ofr a pic of the composite toes shown:

Here are two styles from Wolverine:

These from Hy-test offer greater selection of styles:

Good luck! ;)

Respectfully,
Henry

Thanks for the links ssbn727.
Ive been wearing really nice Chippewas for a few years now and they are great except when your standing still in the cold for long. I told myself this winter Im keeping warm, I cant take freezing toes anymore!

Alan, I've had good success with just regular uninsulated steel toe boots (Redwing)and Filson merino wool socks. They come in 3 or 4 differant weights. I get the next to the heaviest and buy them a little big. Make sure you have a little room in your boots. My feet never get cold as long as I keep moving a little. If it's really cold a pair of 2 buckles fixes that. The only thing is you should never put them in the dryer or your kids will have some nice socks. I'm in Nebraska so I know COLD. Look on EBay you can find them sometimes in 2-3 pair lots. Tom

Hoffman boots are excellent!!!   www.hoffmanboots.com   click on the linemans boots and then click on the double insulated ones. I have worn these boots for years in the winter up here in the northwest and they are great. The linemans boot has a better shank in them then the rest so that is why I recommend them.  I think you can contact them and they can put a safety toe in them as well. They are out of Kellogg, ID. Where are you working?   Good Luck

Brian,
Im working at a shop here in Philadelphia, PA. Im indoors but I dont get to move around alot so the combination of standing on cold steel, not moving, plus the steel toe itself turns my toes into ice cubes pretty quick. I told myself Im gonna stay warm this year so Im hunting for something really warm. Thanks for the link, Im gonna check 'em out now.

They are a great boot you might try the boot they call the "steel toe powerline" in comes insulated or no-insulated. It would probably be a little more comfortable in a shop. Your feet will roast in the doubles unless it is close to 0 deg. in a shop.  But they are cush boots and very tough. And no I'm not a salesman for those wondering, I'm a customer.

You can do a search for "pac boots", I was looking a few years ago and found some that would keep your feet warm in Antartica!

Here they are, Baffin pac boots, rated to minus 148 degrees.....

Probably keep your feet comfortable while in orbit!

Here's a 10" pair by Servus, only minus 75 degrees though.

One bit of help is if you are standing in one place, get a scrap or sample pieces of carpet to stand on. Great for ice fishing too.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. I bought some Baffin pac boots on E-bay the other day, pretty good deal too. Back when I was in the Marines we had pretty much the same thing during our cold weather training and they kept your feet nice and warm. I swear sometimes its colder working inside a shop then it is outside...no sunshine I guess.
