A friend of Mine has (2) F-550 - 6.0s, '04 &'05 I think [they were the first 2 years of production]. The older one had a sensor go bad, oil or fuel pressure, not sure which. It would not fire at all, computer shut it down. It was dificult to diagnose, but after a few attempts at replacing the batteries & some other stuff, the dealer finally found it.

That truck blew the air tube from the intercooler to engine off when brand new, the replacement had better clamps.

they are great as long as you dont drive them hard, pull with them, or let them idle.  They perform best when parked.

I have to admit that I am a true blue ford man.  The 6 leaker was the beginning of the end as far as I am concerned.  Emmissions and federal regulations is what is making it tough for anyone in the diesel market and even tougher for products like the 6.0.
I had an 05 and did not have any catastpohic failures, but did have many more promlems that the 86 with the reliable 6.9

We put on in an 85 ford, lots of room with just a slight mod to the firewall with sledge.  Ran like a scalded dog.

I have 130k on my 2005 F-250. Bought the truck new off the lot. No engine troubles at all. It does a great job of pulling my 20 foot tandum axle cargo trailer.
Lots of nay sayers about the 6.0 but in my own experiences, I have had no troubles.
Note, ford has parted ways with International and now has it's own ford built diesel motor in their new superduty trucks.

I think thats what they called the "Scorpion project". I read an article where they were talking with Ford about the new engine. They said they went back and looked at what was done wrong, what failed and basically learned from previous mistakes. Add in extensive field testing, dyno testing and any modifications before it went out the door and you have the new engine. Sounds like from reading the article Ford was making a push to be back on top with this engine. I'm a big Cummins fan but was curiously impressed with Ford. Their trucks are built far better as far as chassis than the other two. When it comes to real heavy duty, Ford trucks are monsters.
