I ran a practice test for my WABO at school and was wondering what the tolerance is for the cover pass. How low can it be? When I ran my cover pass I was about 1/64" or less than the top of the plate at the very start of my weld. It wasn't that noticeable but I knew it was there.

I'm going to take a stab at it and say that it needs to be at least full section. Reinforcement is probably limited at 1/8", in case you get it piled up too high when you add to it.

John is right, 0 - 1/8 is the spec.

- 1/64", or -.001" would be a bust.

It is a good idea to study up on the acceptance criteria for any test you are going to take.

WABO Standard 27-13 is available free on line at wabo.org.

Good Luck on your test!
