Having difficulty naming certain joints. For example, two pipes welded together length-wise are welded with a flare v groove [ oo ]. But what is the joint specification? Is it a t-joint, a flanged bevel joint, or a  flare v groove "joint" (for example)? Another joint that is difficult to designate is a pipe length-wise against a plate [ |o ].  For example AWS 3.0:2001 figure 9F shows a Double-Flare-Bevel-Groove weld.  What would the joint be called to which this weld is applied?

What is the direction of the applied stress relative to the axis of the weld?
