Does a welders initial production weld count towards the 5% req'd for radiography?  Our lot size is by welder.

Azphiks,
Yes it does.

Thank you, my lead says it does not as he feels it is a job test.

Job test?
Where do people get this shyt?

ASME Section IX, Article III and I quote "A welder or welding operator may be qualified by radiography of a test coupon, RADIOGRAPHY OF HIS INITIAL PRODUCTION WELDING, or by . . . ."

Its still a qualification test. You do not need both. If you have a qual in place already you do not need your "job" test. If you do not have a qualification in place you do not have a welder to count the percentage against and have an initial weld.
If you use a 'production' weld to qualify then it is a production weld and will be part of the representative sample. Its a production weld no matter if its a qual or not.

As a company we are not prepared to accept the welder based on his WQR "ticket" alone.  Therefore we have a "qualifier" weld which determines if he will stay or go.  Without the ticket, he will not be coming on site.  With the ticket, we are happy to allow him at least one weld, the qualifier.  If he passes this we will keep him around indefinitely.

So the question is about 1 weld for each welder? (LOOL)
Keep in mind that whatever is stated in the code, is a MINIMUM!

But how if line has PWHT? and RT must be performed after PWHT.

Certainly interested in where it states that RT is to be performed after PWHT, Joey.  No sarcasm intended, I'm learning.
