Up Topic Welding Industry / General Welding Discussion / Re-excite coils?

I called a guy about a used miller 400d, and he said it runs great but you need to re-excite the coils if it sits too long. I have never heard of this. Is it common? I have been welding all my working life and never had to do it or even heard of it. Thanks for any info.

It's not common but it can happen when the machine has been idle for a long time. This is because the coils de-magnetize and should be magnatized again.
