There is a family east of Hutchinson in Burrton, Ks. that does this. It is quite a sight to watch. Their goal is to land the shot anvil back on the base anvil. Most of the time they miss, but every now and then they get lucky.

When the anvil hits the other anvil does it bounce up or sideways?

This guy shoots them higher than most. Anvil shooting is somewhat contraversial among the blacksmithing organizations, ABANA in particular bans it at thier events for liability reasons. I haven't seen it in person.
