The AWS D1.1:98 secttion 5.22.3 specified this: "Parts to be joined at butt joints shall be carefully aligned. WHERE THE PARTS ARE EFFECTIVELY RESTRAINED AGAINST BENDING DUE TO ECCENTRICITY IN ALIGNMENT, an offset not exceeding 10% of the thickness shall be permitted", so I dont well understand tghe uppercase leters. please I would like to know some interpretation of this part.

Miguel,
It may simply mean that the parts to be aligned are fixed in their current position (or may not be moved any closer together due to interference), and the current alignment is eccentric. The acceptable limit is 10% of the thickness of one of the members (probably the thinner). Charles Hall
