Is there anybody there with experience using Lincore 36LS self shielded fluxcore wire? When I put 1st hardfacing layer on E71T-1 underlayer, I’m getting “wormholes” porosity. But on second & third layer no problems at all. All time I used same parameters: voltage, stickout, etc. Cleanliness is not an issue. Any idea, what’s the problem?

Thanks

Seen wormholes caused by magnetic polarity in the material. Thinking that the first pass may alter the field.

Thanks uphill,

Any idea what would be the cure for that?

You might give a stringer bead of build up rod a try . Sometimes it disrupts the field. Machining can be partly to blame.

Are you welding over materials removed from service or is this brand new steel?

Al,

It is the refurbishment on material removed from service. Hardworking area was machined off prior to repair work.
