Hello all well I bought myself a new remote from Caseys Cabels, ya know the remote with the red faced dial and the two 3 prong plug ins on the side. Well I am wondering two things here.

1. I am curious if I run a 12 gauge 3 wire insulated cord at 130 feet will it be beefy enough or burn up?

2. I was told I have to re-wire it and all I have to do is look at the plug on the remote or the pigtail adapter and match my extension cords colored wires to the same color as the remotes/pigtail. Is that correct?

Thanks for the help.

Answer to Question 2: yes all yo have to do is make sure the black connects to black and white to white, both at the machine and at the box.

Q1: I don't know/remember how big 12ga is, but I ran 100' of relatively heavy extension cord. I never had any problems when running 7''/9'' grinders.

My question is why didn't you buy your remote from cable controls as a full package? I mean did you buy this remote from a broke rig welder?  Anyways you should be fine if you did as stated in your post. Tell jason the next time you see him Im heading there in the next week or so. we should all grab a beer and tear up the town.lol

hey man, I bought the remote with the pig tail brand new but couldn't find the wiring instructions. I will be sure to let him know, where you going to be working at?

Awesome, I am about 40 miles north of Minot right now. Lemme know when you get to this part of the country and the 1st round is on me.

In todays world most of the grinders on the market are throw aways. So 12ga wire will be just fine for most. If you have one you really like and want to have it for a good long time go with a 10ga cord. I have a 9" Makita that is 23yrs old and has been rebuilt a few times (bearings, brushes, triggers, cords etc.) One good rule of thumb is size the cord to the machine that will pull the most amperage. My 9" has a 3C 10ga SO cord so I have always used at least a 10ga extension cord with it. It has served me well so far. Just my .02

Did that grinder come with a #10 cord? most come with a #14 or #16, which is OK for a short tool cord, but not big enough for a long extension cord.

Yep it came with the 10ga cord. I realized what a beast it was when I pulled it out of the box and plugged it in and tripped the 15 amp breaker because I also had a fan plugged in the same circuit. Its been a really good grinder.

130' of #12 is prety long for 15 amps, but the cord won't burn up, You will just get a little more voltage drop when You actually draw the full 15 amps. At lower draw, it won't be an issue at all. If You were going 150' #10 would be better.

12/3 to 100' -- 10/3 over 100'

You dont need to change your extension cord wiring. Your pigatil and box are wired correctly and your extension is interconnecting those two. Do not rewire your extension cord ends.. Leave them allow
