127.4.11 B31.1 Repair of Welds
For repairs to welds the minimum examination shall be the same method that revealed the defect in original weld. For repairs in base metal material the minimum examination shall be the same as required for butt welds. I have older copy of code 1998 has there been any clarification of this requirement. it sounds kinda backwards. if you bust a x-ray you repair and reshoot. In the base metal repair why would you want to possibly require xray which is how this could possibly read. Table 136.4 uses temperature and pressure criteria and diameter pipe and states visual for all sizes and thicknesses. Where did MT and PT go for base metal. Any comments would be appreciated.
