Some of the new flaw detectors on the market offer a square wave pulser circuit.  What does this do for me, the UT tech? What difference will I see? Will I notice anything? Is this simply a gig to sell new instruments? If it improves the method to the point that I can tell the difference, Im all for it, but if its an improvement within the unit that I wont ever be able to tell is even there, then im less than interested.

Explaination of square wave from NDT.net
See if this explains it well enough.

Thanks John, some it I understood and some was way over my head.  What I basically got from the article is that with a squarewave, if I cant adjust the pulse length and the machine decides the pulse length it isnt something that I can select to affect what I see on the screen. So while it may change the dynamics of whats going on, I cant adjust it. Thanks for the article it was a good read.
