That's right, for another thirty bucks or so you get the same cheep plastic tape but with a crinkled up paper and a wet sig saying your right on.

wow, you have a certified tape measure, not real sure what to say about that.  Maybe I wish I had one.  J/K that is funny though.

Well, I would not call Starrett "cheap" but regardless of that, you can do this with any tape measure.

Accuracy and the traceability of accuracy have a reason for being.

Calibration is a foreign word for way too many people in our industry.

I do not think you need to, but I shall and will.

Now be sure You only use that tape when it is 68f, because that is the temperature it was calibrated for:grin:

 ahhhh, but you can do a little math and still verify your tapes at temps other than 68°F.....try this:

~provided your tape was calibrated with 10#'s of tension at 68°F~

68°F divided by the Actual Temperature times 10#'s Equals the Amount of Tension to apply to the pull handle.

I'am jealous, how do I get one?

well I do not know about tapes BUT I will say I had a nice set of Starrett combo squares and centerfinders in a nice oak case before a crackhead lifted them.   No aluminum/brass screws here...Iron and stainless ....I dearly loved them.  Replacement is quite out of this world in price but almost worth it.  I have never had any issues with their calipers, mics or scales either.  It makes me sad just talking about them...

Starrett still makes most of there stuff in the same old brick factory right here in MA. I have much Starrett stuff and most of it is older than me. You still get what you pay for with quality tools.
