Has any1 seen draw marks that leave dark PT indications during an inspection?
i had a pipe this week that had what looked like drawing marks they were straight and parallel. One of them was visible to the eye without dye.
To me it looked more like a crack so i cut off a small piece and flattened it along the largest mark the pipe broke during flatening.
im bringing this up cuz i was told this was just a drawing mark, but i didnt feel comfortable with it.
Has any1 ever seen such a deep mark?
this indication was jagged...any comments?

I've seen a lot of draw marks both in the mill and job site. None of them displayed jagged edges, nor the depth you described.

the piece used displayed a minor indicaton that i would say is a manufacturing mark, but when i looked at the remainder of the pipe i found an odd defect, that left a large bleedout area during PT. i made them polish out the pipe i reinspected it and it looks indication free now.

Hello Mike;

What does the spec say about indications and how to evaluate them?

Best regard - Al
