Looking at AWS D1.5M/D1.5:2010 to see if Table 5.1 can tell me if re-qualification would be required for a change in “Each manufacture’s brand and type of cored electrode”. What is meant by “manufacture’s brand”? I.e. if we change from using Lincoln brand to Esab brand, would that constitute as an essential variable or change that would require a separate PQR/WPS.

Thanks,

First Welcome to The American Welding Society Online Forum
Have youi looked over the commentary section C5.5.1?
It explains it a bit better.
But yes you will need to requalify switching from esab to lincoln or visa versa.
Good Luck

To add to that - manufacturer's brand names are also essential variables.
As an example: Lincoln Outershield 71M and Lincoln Ultracore 71C are 2 different wires and require separate PQR's, even though they are both classified as E71T-1.
