Not really familiar with this wire and need some info on it,s parametars Example - polarity straight or reverse, CV or CC .amps or  volts settings vertical and overhead etc.

Most gasless (Self-Shielded) fluxcore electrodes run DCEN  (DC-)

Lincoln and ESAB have data sheets on there websites that are free to download.

They are designed for constant voltage but some folks use CC voltage sensing feeders... CC FCAW/GMAW is not prequalified as a process in the eyes of AWS D1.1

In my experience the E71T-8 (Lincoln NR233 for example) electrodes are by far the easiest to run out of position and also qualify for most sisemic codes.

lawrence,
Thanks for the reply forgot to add the wire type NR-212 innershield client is supplying the wire. I will look at lincoln site or info but appreciate all your insight and advice.

kind regards,
Richard

Hello makeithot, To get the correct skinny on a particular gasless flux-cored wire you should really refer to the manufacturers parameters and other technical information; polarity, stick-out, etc. "Most" of the time gasless flux-cored wires will be run on straight polarity, but with some of the particular "T" qualifications there are wires that are designed for reverse polarity. You have to look at the manufacturer's specifications.
Another thing about running this particular wire, is it's need to be run very similarly to stick electrode, meaning drag it(backhand progression) and when doing verticals drag it as well, uphill. Although, some of these wires are designed for use downhill, once again check with the manufacturers specs.
As to type of current: CC/CV, CC sometimes requires a qualification procedure in order to be used for a particular application, it is also much more sensitive to achieving and maintaining adjustment parameters. CV, for many applications is pre-qualified, thus this is generally more desirable, and it is also generally much more forgiving when you are welding with it in regard to parameters. There are a host of things that could be stated about self-shielded flux-cored welding and all of the various wire offerings and applications. You need to carefully research the various types before selecting a particular one. Best of luck and regards, Allan
