Hey I got this pic off of bills web site cool huh?

Does that have a fine tune range selector?

dont know anything about the machine

Someone posted the sales literature some weeks ago, according to that it does, like the older SAE machines.

I wonder how they are getting their DC current on this machine? I am not sure, but the exciter appears to be much the same as the 300 D, in which case I believe they use a rectifier rather than the DC exciter like the 200's. I would really like to try one of these out.

I am pretty sure You are right, given the 1800 RPM and AC Aux. power.

Thats what I am afraid of. The 300's seem a little more sluggish lighting up compared to the Sa 200's and 200D's. Its not bad once you get used to it, but I definitely like better the way the pure DC exciter machines seem to light up and burn. Not sure why there is a difference.

Knowing what little I know about magnatism, I doubt the rectified field current is the reason for any difference, but I could be wrong...

I am inclined to agree with you Dave. My 305G lights up fast as well. Just something that I have only noticed with the 300D's... and this observation is made from welding with a few different 300D's that all seem to act the same way.

Its built the same as the 300d on the bottom side but all OLD school on the top. The weld is nothing like the 300d. I have been picking her apart for the last couple weeks. No complaints. It has the Perkins 404 tried and true engine on it. The radiator is the same as the SA's. The 'reactor' that is being used on the range side is the same as the 1960's SAE400, Solid copper.

If anyone is close and wants to run some rods, free feel to come by. Bring your own rod. She loves 3/16

Kaye, when you light up a 3 with it does it fire right off and feel like its "all there" immediately, or does it seem to take a second or two to get the rod burning? (kinda like a cold start/fighting a cold bead)

I welded with some 1/4 7018 rod with mind to help seat the rings they started right up no cold start. Temp. got a little over 180.

Its right there. No lag time. Believe me I'm trying to find fault with this machine. I want to find the problem before you do.

I am loving this thing. You have continuous control on the range selector. No more clicking into position. I have put 82 on the one in my shop.

The sae400 I used to use at work was my all time favorite portable machine for 7018 and 7024. Company scrapped it when the engine died... I was sad to say the least! Im not in the market for one but from what I am reading on this new sae350 I really like. If I could justify one at work I would buy one.
