Dear all,

Is there anywhere of the ASME Section IX specified the Min. thickness of the base metal qualified? I just found the QW-452 specified the Max. thickness qualified.

Thanks.

Allen,
There is no minimum thickness for performance qualification - the minimum a welder can weld to is governed by the minimum thickness of the WPS they are working to.

Shane

Dear Shane,

Thank you very much!

I left the WPS out of account! That is to say The Min. thickness is to refer to the Min. thickness specified in WPS, while the Max. thickness shall comply with the Performance qualification?

Thanks.

There is no base metal thickness determination AT ALL. Performance qualification is deposit thickness oriented.
See QW-452.1(b).
And as Shane pointed out you would then be limited by the WPS.
