Hi all,
Are C of C's for welding wire (gtaw) that list the chemical composition limits versus the actuall chemical composition on an mtr acceptable to the AI.

Thanks
Strat

Does the contract say you need actual certs, if not i think the markings on the wire box will be the only thing you need to accept.

this is for a joint review and the wire that is in question will be what is used on the sub (vessel) itself, im not for sure that they will accept the c of c's that has the correct heat# but the chemical compositions are the single values maximum percentages that are in section II instead of the actuall values

Thanks
Strat

For joint review, or AI scrutiny in general keep in mind all they care about is if you are complying with the code of review/construction and your program as required in the your Manual.
So, what does the code say, and what does your manual say.

Have a look at SFA 5.01 FILLER METAL PROCUREMENT GUIDELINES which your purchasing department should be using when they procure consumables. They should be using this along with any owners specific requirements. If they do this then all you have to do is follow the approved purchase order requirements.

I have been in ASME joint reviews where the team would not accept MTRs or C of Cs unless the year of the edition & addenda was also stated.

Strat,

Alot depends on "what" you are manufacturing and to what code.

Unless you are performing nuclear component fabrication to Sec III Div 1, you should be ok with the chemical comps limits listed in the C or C's which would be schedule F testing levels.

Acceptance still falls back to the discrection of your AI.
