Miller did their best to copy a Vantage. But they fell short !

The 300's weld good once u get used to them heck anything welds good if u get used to it

How ya doing Jerry! That 250 is still a welding mother F-er

I talked to a hand the other day that had a new Big Blue Pipe Pro 350. He really like it but, said it takes a little getting use to. It doesn't long arc like the older ones and has a Mitsubishi diesel. He bought the stainless package with that black rhino liner also had a wireless remote as well.

Take Care,
Tim

Rig Hand,
When you say it doesn't long arc like the older ones, does that mean you can break the arc easier with less likelihood of arc strikes? Does it still keep pushing the root bead even if you crowd it?

Cactus,
Other than less output, how do you think the Pipe Pro 350 falls short of the Vantage? I'm thinking of selling my Pipe Pro 304 and would consider the 350 or Vantage.

I too would like to hear from someone who has welded with a 304, 350, and a Vantage.

More AC outout. More Options and in MY opinion, a better Arc. Vantage is just all around a better machine
Parent - By Rig Hand (***) Date 05-30-2011 15:28
Sorry about that. He was referring to the way it long arced when you try to break the arc. The new ones are suppose to break arc easier. As far as the bead pushing I don't know.

This is just what I learned from a hand I had just met. So take it for what its worth. I've never seen him weld or any of his welds but, he seemed like a smart guy.

I liked it over the vantage. When I buy a multi process machine its guaranteed we are going to run the dog out of it with every process because we are working on something different every day. The vantage lacked the tig arc characteristic that the Millers have ( I put it to work and sent it home )but to each his own. The vantage is a good machine  but for me, I went blue on all three trucks and have over 5000 hrs on all three pro 300s without a single problem.  We do a lot of ss pipe work and tube welding in plants and prefab. We also work them on pipline, plant and rig work without any issues. I'll be upgrading two to the 350 end of the year. Oh Yah check out the wireless remote we have had good luck with them on the current machines aswell.

Will the wireless remote work when your inside a piece of 98" pipe about 6 foot in? This is first time I have heard of the wireless remote.

Never had a problem. Been 200 foot from mine before I lost signal. Repaired some hack's busted weld on a heating coil 50 foot  from the truck inside a 12 foot deep stainless blending reactor with out problems. It has contactor on/off button to make it hot or cold and will give you active output voltage & amps where you are at as well as adjustment in percent of you max output set on the machine. So you can set you max at 200 and adjust in percentages never going over that. Pretty handy add on and I think it ran about 700.

The Miller rep told me you had to be in line of sight for it to work.. He said he was doing some demos for a Praxair and went 15ft away from the welder but around the corner of a brick building and it wouldn't work..

The miller rep doesn't work his everyday. Like I said I've never had an issue. Wouldn't buy one if that was the case. Works just fine in a cellar too.

My Vantage has a Voice Activated Current Control.

As far as wireless remotes go, Miller just came out with theirs a few months ago.  Tru Remote has been making/selling them for years, and they are available for nearly any engine drive out there.  My Tru Remote works well.  Here's a link...
