Brother Inspectors,

We need to hang together as close as we can pertaining to 3rd party rates.
If you are offered a job going through a temp agancy, you can rest assured
that the rate is a joke.  I was just offered an assignment for $19 per hour!
The job was a good one, but the employer was not hiring direct, even though
I had worked for them three years ago, and the rate was $19 an hour instead
of the $35 an hour I made in 2008. I told them no way I'm working for that!
I haven't made that low a rate since 1997. The going rate is from $35 to
$42 an hour, unless you are going strictly contract, then it is more.
If anyone takes one of these low-paying jobs, he is cutting everyone's throat.
We need to let these companies know that we are not working for nothing.
I know the economy sucks, and I haven't worked since September 2010 due
to some surgeries, but we have our experience and integrity and must not
give in to antiquated wages.  I can promise all of you that I will not work for joke
wages, and I hope that the rest of you can say the same.
Let's stick together on this. We have a proud profession and deserve fair wages.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have a degree in chemistry and chemical engineering CWI, have five patents in welding, worked in Oklahoma, in the petroleum industry and was dam glad to get fifteen an hour at times. Did inventing etc with hope for big returns. Employer knowing I was looking for casual work. Been at it for a while and I have seen young people ACWI / CWI's at the first job and one past 80 doing CWI'ing. Insulted, when I started on my first CWI work 15 an hour would have been a raise. One thing for sure no one is going to stay at age etc so they are top money!  I hope this helpful.
Sincerely
Len Andersen

Fellow AWS'ers,
1993 my first CWI'ing was 12 and change an hour. Alternatively and concurrently New York City Yellow Taxi'ing at about minimum wage! , Construction work etc The "young people ACWI / CWI's at the first job and one past 80 doing CWI'ing" is happening as I write. I am shooting for +80 doing it. The one that figures to get younger mess it up for ---.

I was making $12 in Bootie, Louisiana as a non-union pipefitter for B&R back in '78.

Here in Oregon, prevailing wage jobs are $51.65 for pipefitters, electricians and welders.

Our shop welders are getting $18-$22/hr.

I guess it depends on what the cost of living is in your area that influences what the pay rate is.

i know the operating engineers in los angeles dispatch inspectors. the iron workers
and steamfitters dont have a classification either. Im having no trouble at all
getting 35 to 52 an hr i might have to travel but there is work out there.
how much is your union pension fund worth these days?
