I have an opportunity to transition from downhill pipeline welding to doing sleeving, however I must pass a series of tests first. I have never done any sleeving, but understand it can be a bit tricky at first. I am trying to find someone that has taken a sleeving test and actually done sleeving work. I have been told that the test can take up to 5 days and involve 5 different procedures namely, (1) 12" branch weld 6010 downhill, (2) 12" branch weld 7018 uphill, (3) 12" 6G butt joint 6010 downhill, (4) 12" 6G butt joint 7018 uphill. (5) a waterjacket test.

I have done the first four tests, but not the 5th. I understand what a sleeve does on a pipeline and how it is applied. What I don't know is what does the waterjacket test consist of, and what are the pitfalls involved. If I can pass this test it means years of work at mainline wages.

Thanks.
