What is the correct material for a new Oxygen manifold and connecting piping? Can it be black iron or does it have to be copper??

It really depends on the intended service for the oxygen, but I would say welded stainless steel with minimal threaded connections.
Black Iron and Copper will contaminate the oxygen.

In a medical building the company that My Dad worked for built, the Oxy lines were copper soldered with a silver bearing soft solder, Staybrite or similar.

At the auto frame plant I worked at, I think they were threaded steel pipe.

If you mean oxygen and acetylene manifold. DO NOT USE COPPER with acetylene!!! It is a fantastic means to remodel a building. So if the building is too crowded, go for it.

Just be CAREFUL who cuts and threads the pipe …
We all know how oxygen and petroleum products  react!

There is also a “special” thread sealant made specifically for “oxygen rich” applications.

Cheers,
jb

Thanks guys, looks like we will go with seamless type K copper, silver soldered. Fire dept OKed threaded black iron, but plumbing contractor used wrong sealant twice, so we decided on silver soldered copper. Don't trust threaded joints that have been put together and taken apart numerous times with the same fittings.

back purging the braze joints with N2 is a good idea
