Fillet weld T-joint test.
Do you have to do a weldment for each position that want to use in production or as with ASME IX does the flat position qualify for all?

This may sound a bit snide... but it is true.

You really need to have a copy of the code you are going to be complying with if you are going to qualify a procedure.

D1.6:2007, clause 4.4, table 4.2(B) and figure 4.5 spells it out pretty clearly.

Table 4.2 (B) says Number of welds per WPS = 1 in each position to be used.
When they say welds do they mean weldments or beads?
for example I could do a T-joint and do one weld on one side in the 3F travel up, and the other weld on the other side 4F.
Or I could interpret it to be saying one weldment with both sides being welded in only the one position. With one weldment needed for each position to be qualified.

Or perhaps I could do a T-joint with a root pass and two covers on each side and perform each WELD in a different position and qualify it for all postions.

I would disagree about it stating it clearly.

Read clause 4.4.1.1 and look at fig 4.5. Table 4.2 also refers back to fig 4.5.  To me it seems clear.  At some point you have to take the available information and advice presented and make your own determination on how to proceed.  Possibly later today other people will jump in and explain it better.

Fig 4.5 and Table 4.2(b) tells you to put a multipass on one side of the tee and a single pass on the other side.  Technically it looks like you could to one side flat, and one side V-up, but then you would have a flat only single pass (max size to be used in construction) and a V-up multi pass (min size to be used in construction).  Doesnt seem real useful unless you have a very specifc project.

is there a problem with doing a 6G pipe test. that would qualify for all positions on grooves and fillets.
