D17.1 question

Hello,
I've been reviewing AWS D17.1 to gear up in order to draft a new procedure qualification record for a welder, and can't seem to find any specifics on GTAW filler material size. If I don't list the size of the filler material on the PQR, will it be acceptable? If I do list the filler material size on the PQR, am I bound by that size?

Size of the filler metal doesn't matter,only the thickness of the material being qualified.

Is there any specific information that clearly states that? For instance if the weld program were to be audited how would I explain that filler material size does not matter?

No,5.4.2 just says filler metal used,as in type,no size requirement.

5.4.2 in d17.1? There is no 5.4.2 in d17.1.

Does it say word for word that there is no size requirment for filler material?

I have the latest and greatest,the 2010 edition,but no,it just says filler metal used as an essential variable.I've never listed size on a PQR.

Yeah I wish I had the newer version. Seems like they are being vauge intentionally. Elsewhere in d17.1 it mentions that u should use filler metal in production welds of similar composition to the filler used in qualification with no reference to size. I just wish that there was an easier way to clearly state that I don't have to list the filler material size.
