A statement was made here at work that “RT is not required for piping (butt welds) less than 2 inches OD or counted in the pipe class percentages”. 

My opinion is only if it is addressed in contract specifications or the referenced code.  I’ve looked my contract specifications and in the referenced code, B31.3, and there is no mention of this.  Is there more to this?
