Is a backing purge required on a GTAW root pass on P 91 pipe?

From the research I has done, the answer is yes. I must say though, I haven't ever seen a joint that wasn't back purged. Charles Hall
PS Check out the Euroweld site. They used to have some excellent reference material for P91 materials posted online.

The welding program I use specifies purge for GTAW P91. It is a client requirement from their specification.
