Dear Experts
ASME B31.3 does not specify what is the right method for tack-welding,ie-
1- directly tack weld on the root
2 - use bullet/bridge tack welding

Most of the time both are accepted by Client inspectors.

What is right method and why?

Pls advise

There is no right method in that context. In general direct tacks are used for thinner wall or smaller bore pipe, bridge tacks for heavier walls or large bore.
It also may depend on how good your tackers are. There is a variety of criteria.
