In MOST International Codes, especially when notch toughness testing is required, if you run out of electrodes and wish to buy a different product name, produced by another maker, you will need to requalify your WPS. The reason is simply because the "G" designated electrodes can vary WIDELY in many properties (including tensile strength) because their composition is as agreed by the purchaser and the manufacturer.
For this reason alone I suggest using caution when developing a WPS around "G" designated electrodes.
