Yes but I'm overhauling the motor. Last minute decision.  I should have it running again Thursday, waiting on the rings.  the motor looks good inside, it had a little blow-by but not bad.  it will be like a new motor when finished.

What, exactly are you replacing?  Getting the crank turned?  New pistons?  Bore job?
Parent - - By burleigh26 (**) Date 01-25-2012 04:44
Putting new rings, cleaning er guts, making sure everything is working properly and nothing is wrong. Not boreing it over.

It is just that your pics are of old stuff.  Crank needs turning from the looks of it.  At least one piston is scuffed badly.

Takes more than rings, lapping the valves and a gasket kit to qualify for an engine overhaul

Not to be "busting Your shoes", but when honing cylinders try to get about 60 degrees angle between the hone lines on the up & down strokes. This requires a really low RPM drill to spin the hone, and a rapid up and down movement.

This condition is what the new rings wear into best.

Had it honed out doing a cross x pattern.  I have a mechanic doing this for me. The cylinder walls look perfect. The one cylinder that looks bad really isn't, it's a film. I thought it was worse myself. The crank shaft is in great shape.
