I need suggestions for thin gauge, high tensile strength steel.  My company hauls scrap and we are trying to lighten our trailers to enable us to haul heavier loads.  Currently we use 3/16 mild steel for the walls and floors.  The goal is to use thinner(lighter) steel but not compromise the durability of our trailers.  thinner guage ar plate is super difficult to find.  What else can we use???

Hi Amanda

Have a look at 3Cr12. It is a low cost "lean" stainless steel. (although often the suppliers do not really want to market it as "stainless") Improved corrosion and abrasion resistance and improved strength. May be a little more expensive up front, but may give good returns in the long run. It is often used for transport applications, so is proven in these types of applications.

Regards
Niekie
