Back in July I broke out on my own with some help of some good forum members after working single hand for 8 years. My question is that at my previous company I qualified AWS D1.1 on 1" but now that I have quit that company is that certification null and void? I have my own LLC and insurance and looking to continue to build my company. I have been running my rig for 6 months solid but it slowed down and we had a baby so I want to make myself more marketable locally as there is a steady supply of work. Do I have to test at an accredited AWS center or can I have a 3rd party do it like MISTRAS or another testing company? Thanks for your input. Also would ASME qualification be worth my time to work with plumbers or mechanical contractors?
Requalify with one test to three codes with one inch plate ~ structural steel, bridge and heavy construction/ag equipment. You pay for the procedure qualification and the certification.
Okay sweet. Thats kind of what i thought from what info I could find. Thanks for your time.
6 G pipe don't worry about plate tests unless you need them. I only carry my 6G SMAW and FCAW pipe that is about all you need give ma a call and I will hook you up with my CWI buddy.
Stop in to your local welding supply and ask them about certification they should know something about how the state handles their certification process, or who to contact.
Even if your certification has expired keep a record of it. the cert shows that you could do that process and might help open a few doors. (And probably more important is that it shows that you can fill out the necessary paper work and keep records)
