G'day All,

We want to qualify a structural plate CJP welding procedure that will be suitable for all position in accordance with AWS D1.1.

I had a look at AWS D1.1 2010 edition.  According to Table 4.1 I interpret that we will need to weld and test 3-off plate coupons i.e. 1 in 2G, 1 in 3G and 1 in 4G to qualify all positions.  My question is, may you roll (cold) the structural steel plate into tubular form then weld and test it in 6G position hence qualifying for all position that way?

Thanks

Presuming it is to the D 1.1 or D1.5 Code, how can you justify your statement?  What Clause are you basing this statement on?

Joe,
Table 4.1 - A Tubular CJP Groove in the 6G position qualifies all positions for Production Plate Welding,
