Just a random thought!

Ya ever wonder if the patterns on the welding hats that we have come to know and exist today because welders of old got their wives to make them hats to protect their heads?

And the wives of old decided that "Well that dress is getting ratty..." and the wives would end up making them out of old ratty dresses?

And thusly the Poke-a-dot hat was born. :eek:

Actually they were the scraps left over after the wife made her clothes from the flour sacks

If it was old material it would burn too quick

It's gotta be true, cause I had my wife make me a couple hats one time, and they were made outta some kind of satiny, stretchy material that smelled like an old tin of kippered snacks....

Pretty well everyone I work with wears those elastisized two color beanies at work and it makes me chuckle. I can't help but picture them...with propellers! :lol:

Although this Flour Sack concept leaves me baffled.

More than likely the poke-a-dot hat was born on account of "Does this dress make me look fat?"

I have'nt seen a "Beaniecopter" in a long time. Don't think they make them anymore, just the propeller clown hats.

What is baffling about it?

Used to not be canned biscuits, frozen waffles, or boxed cake mixes heck fresh loaves of bread were scarce and expensive.

When I was a youngster too small to be in the cow lot before daylight,(they milked @ 120 cows by hand every morning and evening) one of my chores was helping Granny, I used to watch and help her making breakfast for 20-30 people depending on the season. A 50 pound sack of flour lasted @ a week.
