Dear All,
In D1.1, 2010, Table 4.12, Item (6): The omission of backing (if used in the WPQR test). My understanding is the following: a qualified welder with backing strip must requalify when he/she wants to weld in production without backing strip. Is it right or not? I'm a newcomer. Pls help!
Viet.tq
Viet,
Qualified with backing strip means they are qualified with "backing".
That means they can weld in production with backing strip, ceramic backing or backgouging etc but cannot weld single sided joints,
Regards,
Shane
Welcome to the forum Tran!
Is the production weld to be back gouged and welded afterward on the back side?
Or are you doing your production welding from one side and without backing?
Dear Lawrence,
Yes, the production weld to be backgouged and welded afterward on the back side.
One more question, it’s very easy to know that welding with ceramic backing is more difficulty than welding with backing strip because the first one root face has to be as good as weld face while the second one is no need (because we are not able to assess root face).
What do you think about this?
Best Regards
Viet
