I have a client that is going to qualify a 6" pipe weld single bevel full penetration weld.  Are the qualified to weld a Partial Penetration single bevel to square bevel?  If I am reading the code right I think they are.

What?

No disrespect intended, but please find a copy of AWS A3.0 terms and definitions. Look at the sketches in the back of the book. Once you have the terminology right we might have a better idea of what you are asking us.

Please don't tell us you are a CWI.

Best regards - Al

Hi Jerry

Maybe you can show us a sketch of the two weld preps, because I do not understand your terminology. Also, are we talking procedure qualification, or performance qualification?

Yor client is more than likely wanting to qualify per AWS D1.1, for TYK connection's, see figure 4.27 for pipe greater than 6" with 37.5 deg  single bevel, welded to heavier sch pipe ID,(3/16 ' minimum) welded in 6GR position. The PJP you refer, not sure what you are talking about.

Just taking a shot in the dark.
