I have a WPS for welding a branch connection from 2 3/8" thru 12 3/4" from 3/16" to 3/4" wall thickness.  Would this qualify for welding on 1/2", 3/4" and 1" threadolets or would I need to have a WPS that goes down to an OD of 1/2"?  Also, same sizes used, say I want to weld a threadolet onto X70 pipe and the threadolet is A105, would my procedure have to state that I was good from X70 to A105 or would I just need a WPS for X70 only and the TOL material is mute?  Thanks!

GHF, if you look into API 1104 20th Ed. section 5.4.2 Changes requiring requalification - you will not see diameters listed. In section 5.3.2.3 you will notice that the diameter ranges listed are "suggested groupings". They are essential variables for welder qualification only. API is somewhat vague on many issues. You can use that to your advantage but don't let it become a disadvantage. As for the X70 issue, section 5.4.2.2 (c) will lock you down on another qualification test(s).
