Question for anyone familiar with this specification.
I just want to make sure my understanding of this document is correct.  Relevant to certification of the Welding Inspector Specialist (or assistant), how long will an individual remain certified. I don't see any specific time period determined within aws B5.2.  This leads me to believe that the employer is responsible for determining the actual certified time period of each individual.
Would the employer develope a proficiency checklist of the individual to show the continued training?  And would this be sufficient?

Thanks

Bryant B.

BryantB,
I saw nothing about duration of certification. It appears that the employer is responsible for Inspectors function, education, training, examination requirements, requirements, physical requirements, certification, written practice and company responsibilities but, if the employer mandates that the inspector shall maintain a current certification from an agency that does have a time period then the inspector would be bound by that.

AWS B5.2 is a specification that addresses employer based certification of in-house welding inspectors. It is the equivalent of ASNT's Recommended Practice SNT-TC-1A. The employer can tailor the qualification requirements to suit their needs. Their is no third party involvement in the qualification or certification process.

Best regards - Al
