I know I have asked this before but maybe this time I can get feed back building a new bed need to do some finishing touches what size pipes do ya'll recommend for the poles I had one on another rig that was 1 1/4 inside 1 3/4 mechanical tube and I have seen some built out of 2 3/8 and 1 5/8 and some out of 3 inch. Here is a pic of my truck a couple of weeks ago

Tex,

seems as though I used 2" pipe for the outside frame or was it 2" tube....no, it was pipe cause I bought the weld 90's. I'd have to measure what I put inside of it. Mine is a three stage though. That sucker will shade on both sides of the truck and the back without moving it. I'm gonna go down and check it out right now and let you know. Was supposed to let a friend know the sizes months ago and just have not got around to it!! Now seems like a good time!

I've got 2" pipe as the outside frame and 1-1/2" on the inside slide portion. Can't remember if that was something I bought or had laying around that just worked but a tape across the inside put it somewhere between 1-1/2" to 1-5/8" I.D. There is a pipe inside of that one as well and it's 1-1/4" pipe. There are pics on here in a thread somewhere.

Yeah I found the pics of yours most of the other folks I have talked to say to us 2" which is 2 3/8" od with 1 1/2" inside but to me it looks sinewy big. I have one on a rig trailer that is 1 3/4 mechanical tube with 1 1/4" inside of that not as tight of a fit. It seems like the 2" and 1 1/2" is somewhat heavy too but more rigid. Thanks for the advice

Yeah, it's pretty heavy but don't flex much when you've got 7-8 feet stretched out and hurts when it falls over onto your foot!!

Yeah I started mine today gonna have to have a crane set it in the truck when I get done i'll take pics of it when i get done. This is a slow moving process trying to work and build this bed but getting there

I used square tubing for mine.  I like it.  I dont use it much though..!

What size tubing did you use and how did you make it pivot
Parent - - By rcwelding (***) Date 06-01-2012 09:23
I used 2 1/2 in with a 2in square tubing insert that slides out.  I welded an 8in long 2in pipe on the back that I sleved so it could swing anywhere off the side or back of the truck.  In order to clear all the crap on the back of the truck I had to make it higher than I wanted  but it still works OK.

"In order to clear all the crap on the back of the truck"

Ain't that the truth! Mine just barely grazes the top of my lead reals, knocking a bit of dust off as it goes by!!

Sorry got busy and didn't get pic to you. You're done by now I'm sure. I just got done w mine 2 7/8 main frame and out rigger then 2 3/8" then 1 1/2" then 1 inch haven't got a chance to use it yet but it reaches way out there. Think ill take the 1" out its kinda format like that.
