Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the quality of lincoln products have gone downhill.... For example 12 boxes of bad rods code 6r7 also went into the welder repair shop the other day he had 7 brand new sae 300's in there broke down....... Just seems like they don't care anymore or don't put pride in what they build... But yet we have to make a living with the machines and consumables they are making.... just my two cents and wondered if anyone else has noticed

I cracked open a brand new 50lb'er of 1/8" excaliburs yesterday and have tossed about a pound of rods that are damaged and missing the flux at the bottom. Use them for tying off stuff on the man lifts.

I have that problem here as well. (flux missing/broken off a bunch of the 50lbs worth)

Eutectic rod has really let me down here lately too.

About every 3rd rod decided to keep all the flux on one side, and fizzle the rest off the other.....

America is chalk full of stupid, lazy, (and most importantly), greedy people.

I was using MG 518 until the LWS dropped it.  No flux problems like Lincoln and Esab

We have gone through 6 boxes now all finger nail and blow out terrible can't burn but about 3 inches

I havent had any trouble with missing flux but every once in a while 1 will stick while welding and trying to wiggle it free and all the flux just falls off. On the excaliber and the hr4. Washington alloy makes a good rod i never having any sticking problems or flux falling off.

the problems we been having is not with 7018 it's 70+ it finger nails and blows and splatters all over like you are welding on a magnet... we are up to 8 bad boxes now!

I agree with ya'll on this the quality of the rods is terrible, I bought a box fourney 6011 rods for welding on junk stuff old farm equipment and they seem to be better quality than the Lincoln ones sad isn't and we are paying thru the butt for these name brand rods

who makes forney electrodes? i believe they are branded by a manufacturer like hobart
Parent - By texwelder (***) Date 07-13-2012 04:41
I don't know they are cheaper than anything else out there

You might want to mention the missing flux issue to your LWS. I had an issue some time ago, come to find out a new employee was tossing the boxes of rods around like canned goods because he had not been properly trained.

Mine are definately a result of bad tooling at the factory. I went through it several times with Lincoln Excaliber rod. That's the reason I switched to Eutectic all those years ago, and of course Eutectic just ran a lot better for the work I was doing at the time. I don't know what the answer is, but trying to control an arc that acts like a magnet is not conducive to making good welds......and it makes me want to scream, and throw fits, and alienate all the people around me at the time.

Which is what I do.

Actually made in Euclid, Ohio. I used to work at Lincoln electric in the machine division right next to the electrode division.

Things have changed since you left Lincoln...Btw, when is the last time you were there? For myself, it was 2009 attending a seminar for welding educators showcasing their virtual welding system as well as discussing upcoming events and then going around the machine division on a guided tour which a few of us "customized" based on our collective curiosities.:cool:

Although they still manufacture electrodes in the USA... The majority of their SMAW electrodes are currently "made in China" :red::roll::sad:

Respectfully,
Henry

That would figure Henry, just like every other crap product that claims to be made in America....

I last worked there in 1999, I worked on the large engine line asssembling and welding the generator frames, it does'nt surprise me if they where made in China, they have out sourced a lot of stuff. I left there because they would always come out and time study me and reduce my piece work prices.
