I don't have a shorthood to trade but I have some cash if you were interested.  I'll keep watch for a shorthood.  I been lookin for a 305g only because the gas model should cost less than a diesel.

The D is a much better machine. It sips fuel, and runs good with a load. The difference you pay on it will save you from filling it every day. I can't tell you how much that will save you. It will burn 3/16 at 180 amps for 2 days straight and still have a quarter tank left. It's liquid cooled, so it's always nice and cool, and it's still almost as light as the gasser. I wouldn't sell it if I could get away with keeping it. This trip I'm going on is goin to take every penny I have and then I'll have to wait the initial start-up time to get paid, (45-90 days). It's yours for 3500.

I don't have a shorthood to trade I'm just curious about the 305d . I've been thinking about getting a 305d or 305g , but wondering how it would do for arc gouging every once in awhile.

The diesel is going to do much better under heavy load. It's got a torquey little 3 cylinder Kubota in it. Gouging with the fan cooled Rangers is not gonna work real well. It's too hard on them. You give me a good offer and we'll make it work. I have a line on a good shorthood for 3500.00. That's probably what I need to get out of this machine. It has no problems and welds great. 3500-400 hrs, well maintained. And the best thing about it is it only weighs in at 650 lbs. That's what attracted me to it in the first place, but where I'm going this winter it will never hang without gelling up every other hour. Thanks. Sully

Where the heck are you going when you're worried about the fuel gelling? I'm up here in Northern Alberta and have never seen or heard of guys fuel gelling or even in my Vantage.

Well, I'm going to north dakota. When I worked in Wyoming for a couple years, I saw temps with windchill in the negative 60's. My Duramax gelled up driving down the road a couple times. My rig I am building for the trip is a 427 gasser, sure to fire up at whatever temp. I would like to have the same in a welder. The simpler, the better.

Coldest I have seen was where the Alcan begins at the border. -72 degrees. That's life or death right there, and I'll go with my gasser on a day like that.

The mighty North is where I'm going.

The Mighty North is where I work.  If you see a silver '02 Ram 3500 on a cold day on the side of the road (possible fuel problems) hope you remember the code of the North.

Hey you got it! It's like maritime law when it's that cold. I had to call a motor grader on the cb radio one time to plow me a path to the main road in a snow storm. If he hadn't been around, I don't know that I would have survived. I only had a a half tank of fuel....

I have two 305G's.  500lbs, $4000, you can't go wrong.  I burn 3/16" 7018 (250 amps) for days on end in 95 degree weather.  Never had a hiccup.  Much quieter than the diesel, and it starts in minus 30 degree weather too without any starting aids.  I bought one just as a backup!  I have an entire 2nd rig ready to go should my main one go down (truck or welder) for any reason.
