Good day to all,

Currently we have done destruction tests on projection weld studs and all other welds we do in house.  We have a hydraulic press for push out and chisel for destruction test on projection or spot welds.  We are dealing with a new customer that requires (the subject line above) strength testing.  Where can I find information on this for studs or resistance welding period.

This is very different than telling the customer we are pulling base metal and that being good enough to satisfy the need.

Thanks

I have not yet seen a generic engineering test in a code standard for strength testing studs.  However, they do exist in custom written weld specifications by specific companies.  We have always used a torque test where I have been required to verify stud strength in times past.  The torque test can either be set at a desired strength value or it can test the strength to fail by destructive torque.  In my last project we tested 100% of our stud welds for a minimum non destructive torque value by using a robotic torque tester connected to the main welding system PLC controller.
