Has anyone used this beveling machine..?? I have always had the impression that a MATHEY DEARMAN was the gold standard for beveling machines and an H&M was a close second..

I saw one of these on craigslist but it sold before I could go look at it.. I looked at there site and there beveling machines are nice looking and very versatile.. I love how it has built in adjustable dogs for any size pipe no matter what odd ball size it is..

I also like how the whole thing can be adjusted by hand with big nobs and you don't have to fight those stupid little wing nuts.

Yes, I have the small one that goes up to 4". I like it for the same reasons you stated, it's lite, easy to set up, easy to adjust and cut's square. The only draw back is the lite construction. It will not stand being abused by some knotheaded "helper". But other than that I think it's a real good product.

I can't comment on the sawyer, but we have 3 HMs, 2 for 8" and one for 3".  The chain and sprockets wear out after a while, and those little wing nuts are a bit of a pain.  We also have had issues with the aluminum brackets that the torch actually mounts to bending.  The boomer springs are always getting stretched out and the ends straighten out or break.  The rivets that hold the camming latch mechanism together wear out and break.

So there are places they could be improved on, especially given their price.  However we do use them alot.  Our 8" HMs are in use daily, so I can't really complain.

Thanks for the link to the Sawyer.  I will check them out the next time I am in the market.

How well does it work? Is it a Koike or a copy of one?

I have used the saddle machines and the chain machine, and I like the chain machine, more versatile, more compact, and you can do almost every size with it. It is tough to cut a pipe 30 feet up in the air with a saddle machine, the chain machine makes it a little easier, and it stores better on the truck. Just my 2 wooden nickels.

I have used one of these, they are cheap, but they work quite well, i did find it slipped on 4" pipe so it had to be fairly tight, can't really use it on anything below 4", but for the price and 12" pipe it worked quite well, only thing about it was making sure the chain was tight and inline, if it has any lateral bow, it will slacken up and it will cut crooked, but if ya tighten the chain and swing it back and forth a few times it pulls the slack and u can re tighten and re align it and it cuts pretty darn good.
