Is there a problem that I should be aware of as a QA/QC manager while acting as the company's Management Representative overseeing the Quality Management System?

any conflicts of interests? or anything along those lines that would concern or give heartburn to an auditor during an annual AISC audit?

Our current Management Representative is retiring next year, and the company has asked me to take on this roll in addition to my current roll as QA/QC...so I'm digging into every corner sweeping cobwebs and trying to look at all angles.

Looking at Building Standard page 5, paragraph 5.3 at the responsibilities for the "Management Representative"....and the definition of "Quality Management System" on page 3, it looks like it shouldn't be a problem...however I would like to hear more opinions before I get to our annual audit and find out there.

I have been the QC Manager through 6 AISC Audits, 3 small Bridge and 3 to the Building Standard.

I have also been the Management Representative for the last 3 audits/Building Standard Audits.

The first Audits the owner wanted to escort, So I accompanied them (as he was the Management Representative), to answer the questions.

No conflicts there as long as you are the Management's Representative.

Have fun

Marshall
EDIT Heck I was even both the Shop Foreman and QC Manager on four of the six.

I do have seperation between myself and Production, so that is a plus. We have a seperate Production Manager which helps seperate the responsibilities. It's good to hear that you were a Mgnt-Rep and the QA/QC guy, and the auditors had no problems with that. You never know how they view this, so I was asking to make sure I wasn't overlooking some aspect of it.

John
I was both positions also.
Just make sure you change your flow chart and resumes to indicate that you are the QC/QC/ and the management rep.  As well as part of the executive management team obviously.
I have taken a few seminars over the years by ATEMA, and in fact there are a few really small companies that only have a few people and they all wear multiple hats.

Any questions or problems, let me know.
Good Luck, and congrations, put in for your raise while your at it

LMBO, you guys are killing me with this promotion and raise talk  .....I haven't seen a cost of living raise, for many, many years now. I certainly don't expect to see one in this economy. I feel very fortunate to have a job with the way things are going.

Don't worry John. Before the first World War (1914 - 1918), in Germany they said that German Army officers were paid one half with money and one half with honors.
